Context
Mobile quoting application for salespeople, replacing paper-based calculations with a digital workflow.
Key usability finding
Task T8 (discovering an existing quote) had a 3 out of 5 failure rate in initial testing. The automatic redirection after quote creation broke the user’s mental model — they expected to review the quote before being sent elsewhere.
Before / after
Decoupled input measurements from product catalog assignment. In the original design, users had to know the product before entering measurements. The redesign allows entering measurements first, then browsing compatible products. This matches the salesperson’s natural workflow: measure first, recommend second.
Process
Moderated usability testing, task analysis, heuristic evaluation. Iterated over 2 design sprints based on failure rate data.
Outcome
Reduced T8 failure rate. Improved workflow sequence to match user mental models.
